Preparing a wall for papering

Hi, I need some help with preparing a wall for papering. When stripping the existing paper, it took a lot of the paint off the wall with it, in some cases it has even gone back to plasterboard, there are some quite large patches.

I was thinking of sealing these patches and then covering the whole wall with Polycell Basecoat.

Would this be okay? I need it done asap so I reckon it would be the quickest too?
