I was quoted £2390 for french doors in Oak, in April
I have finally got round to getting the work done and they have told me the price of Oak has gone up 20% £425 since then.

Has anyone else noticed this price rise in wood, or are they trying to hide other price rises by saying it's the wood?

Why not go plastic with oak effect?
No maintainance.

I have noticed quite a price hike in numerous building materials over the last six months. I nearly put a post on the 'trade talk' forum about it, but never got round to it.

Although I do not fully understand the reasons behind it, many manufacturers, amongst others, are feeling the squeeze. They may have to work to higher margins on individual products rather than 3+ yrs ago when they were selling like hot cakes.. also fuel and utility costs wont help. :?

I used to be able to quote off the top of my head quite often, but now am reluctant to do so due to considerable rises of some products. :(

I personally would not opt for wood effect uPVC. I would stick with the wood or white uPVC..
