Hi All.

I have read a lot about priming plywood floors before tiling. Very confusing.

I have a new floor made of 18mm marine ply. The tiles are going to be porcelain.

Which primer product should be used?
Which adhesive product should be used?
Which grout product should be used?

Many thanks if could can advise.

Regards

You will need a flexible adhesive & grout, depending on what make you go for you may need a primer depending on what the manufacturer advises.

I tend to use Bal Products, their flexible adhesives will not need a primer and they do powdered grout that needs no additives to make it flexible.

This should tell you all you need to know for your situation, any doubts give them a call.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

I keep reading that you should prime plywood with PVA: and then I read that PVA should never be used.

What should I be doing: PVA or NO PVA?

Never prime the tiling surface .But you have to prime the bare plywood to stop the humidity damaging the wood .
If you prime the tiling surface you will stop the bonding between the tile cement /adhesive and the wood .
