Hi, I am about to ceramic tile an existing 25mm chipboard floor. The floor was laid about 6years ago and is in still in excellent condition- very flat, very smooth.
Given that the floor is in good condition do I still need to lay down a plywood covering prior to laying the tiles? Is the plywood required to protect the chipboard floor from the tile adhesive or can I just prime the surface before tiling?
If I need to put down a protective covering would hardboard do the job?

Thanks in advance for any help received.

chipboard floor is totally wrong for tiling on ...you need to tile on ply or cement tile backer board fixed to a wooden substrate
