Hi,

I'm a professional painter but just came up with a problem painting a client's new ceiling. It was plastered about 6 months ago and had been painted with 2 or three coats of vinyl matt emulsion by another painter. There was some water damage causing brown stains so I treated them with stainblock, let it dry 5hours and emulsioned over with dulux vinyl matt. This sorted out the stains ok but when I put the new paint on there were some areas, specially the edges of the ceiling, where it dried almost immedietely, leaving really bad brush marks. Tried thinning with water about 20% but still looked crap - any suggestions?!?

In my opinion, Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt should not be used unthinned, as it is to thick. What type of stain block did you use ? Did you seal the full cieling ?

The cause could be a few things but you may need to coat the whole ceiling again bit use a roller this time and give it two coats

I think you're right - probably needed to dilute the paint more but was too worried about splashing cause the place was a mansion full of mega expensive stuff... oh well ;)

cheers
