problem - sometimes the heating comes on when time clock or room stat are
not calling for heat ?? and sometimes water does not get hot ??
any one any ideas[/b]

Hi Martyheat, it may be that there is a frost stat on the system, which brings the boiler on when the system drops near freezing/5 degrees 'c' then goes off when it reaches 10 degrees 'c'. If this is not the case then there is likely a wiring fault in or with the boiler/system controls. Then you need it checked out by a Plumbing/Heating service engineer/electrician.
 
Your diverter valve is sticking.

In one position the rads will heat instead of the water when you turn on a hot tap. In the other you will only get hot water and no heating.

Its not me who has the problem!

Its you and you willl need a replacement valve to fix it!
