the boiler keeps on lighting and reseting constantly in aproxamtly 20 second bursts, it dos this constantantly until the water is almost boiling

it is a y plan system the moterised valve had resitence the first time i pushed it across, now seems to have none, after running the water , i dont know if this is relivent

the tank stat seems to click when turned down but i havent tested with a multi metre(would i take off touch both wires and see if resitence changes when i put back on the tank ?)

be gentle with me im new at this
thanks in advance

A motor valve has resistance to movement when its closed and no resistance when its open to the other positions.

Your problem sounds like an internal boiler problem. Probably not a very difficult one to diagnose but would need a gas registered person.

All I suggest you can do are to measure to confirm that you have a constant 230v call for heat on the appropriate terminal on the boiler. If so then its a boiler problem.

In that case a Baxi fixed price repair may be a good idea as some seals may need changing too.

I AM A RGI but new to fixing boilers
can you give me a few tips with this one
i know i need to join the cc which i will do tonight

boiler is potterton prima ...not promax

You should have said you are an RGI in your first post.

Unfortunately I cannot give you advice on combustion related problems except in the CC.

It will take a day or two before you are registered for access.

You should edit the title to correct the boiler model.

Its very important to correctly identify boiler models first when asking for advice ( based on your wrong diagnosis I gave you wrong advice! ).

Next if you buy a fan for a Promax it will be about £220 whereas a fan for a Prima will be about £120.

Nobody should give advice in the open forum on combustion related aspects, thats for the CC.

You dont give any contact details in your profile. I have my email, phone and fax !
