I am having problems with an Ideal boiler fitted by British Gas. It was fitted about three years ago. Just had it serviced a few months ago but it doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment. Running hot water for a bath is a problem, the water only feels warm. There is now a banging noise coming from the boiler. What is causing this and what can I do to remedy the situation?

Which Isar is it? although it probably doesn't matter with these.

Sounds like the diverter valve is stuck. Does the ch flow pipe get hot when hot taps running?

Probably the 2nd most common fault on these.

Hi there.
All water pipes running through the radiators get hot. We get hot water in the kitchen, just seems to be a problem in the bathroom! The banging noise is a new addition which started a few weeks ago but is really irritating.
I have been reading posts from so many annoyed or angry people. I guess Ideal boilers are on the least favourite list for most people?

But is your kitchen HW really properly hot?

Bath taps will always show the problem worse if there is a fault.

Banging can also be consistent with DV stuck.

Do you live in a hard water area? If so plate HE could be scaled.

Kitchen hot water gets really hot. Water in this area is not particularly hard. Our water has started to have a strong chlorine smell which is worrying. Have reported this to water provider today so that they can investigate!
I have had lots of problems with washing machines which don't last. I have bought four in the last seven years. I am looking into buying another one in the sales! All break down for different reasons but the waste pipes are filled with brown goo. I am careful to use the exact amount of powder and no conditioner. I have read endless information on this subject on the net without getting to the root of my problem!

Thank you for your advice. I have someone coming to take a look at the boiler as the noise sounds more like a car backfiring now. I am not using it for safety. Water company says that my washing machine problem is biofilm which everyone gets. You just have to keep on top of it. So New Year's resolutioon is to ensure that all pipes are maintained regularly and the new washing machine will be given plenty of TLC!!!!!
Happy New Year
:)

Get them to check the working pressure at the gas meter. Isars are very susceptible to faut if this is low.

Next I would check is the ignition electrodes, especially if this is an HE version, they tend to warp in the heat so the spark gap gets too wide.
