Pump Bled Screw

Is it safe to remove the pump bleed screw on a WB240 whilst the system is cold but still pressurized?

I am pretty sure that it is for obvious reasons but every time I loosen the screw the water flow never seems to stop so I am reluctant to remove completely incase the full 1 -1.5 bar pressure blows through it. Is this even possible or am I taking nonsense?

I want to check the operation of the pump, as best I can without removing it.
