pump on/off when bleeding

Hi. When I replace a rad after papering behind etc I always turn off system whilst filling,bleeding said rad. However. Today I replaced a rad and the customer a retired plumber said nah! dont need to turn off pump keep pump running and it'l fill rad quicker. I always thought keeping pump on would suck in air. Erm have I been doin it wrong all these yrs :oops:
