I haven't wired anything. It's all very confusing isn't it? Do you think you're really offering any kind of constructive advice here? To the novice, it would seem perhaps these forums are stalked by one or two who are simply only interested in generating fear and confusion?

Your gratitude is accepted.

Go blow the bloody house up for all I care

Seriously, I do thank everyone for all their comments, constructive or otherwise.... BOOM.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bucherdi, I think the point that is trying to be put across is, you have an unvented cylinder in your property, if installed and maintained correctly they are totally 100% safe. If interfered with either intentionally or inadvertently by the inexperienced they can be potentally dangerous.
If it had been known from the outset that an un-vented cylinder was being dealt with, it would have been totally irresponsible for someone to advise you on any attempted repair, especially within the area of thermal cut-out. Perhaps it has not been dealt with as dipomatically and proffesionally as expected. But please call an engineer with an un-vented licence in the morning. Turn off the boiler and use immersion if fitted and working.

John
