It was cold on the scaffolding this morning. I left early and went to my local. Being cold makes me thirsty... anywho, I noticed that that push down hot water tap (in my local) would not close. I took the upper assembly off and noticed that the lowest washer had, slightly pulled upwards on one side. I pushed it back into position.

Am I correct in assuming that silicone grease will prevent the washer sticking ? I couldn't see any evidence of lime scale on the spindle/mechanism.

silicone grease will certainly help

Thanks Nige.

I went with the silicone grease on each of the washers and o-rings. I donated a tub to the pub so that if I ever need to deal with the other taps, there is some on site.

Having recently been forced to "downsize", I have donated various tools to the pub (cordless drill, soldering iron, etc)- the downside is that I can no longer use the "I will sort it out tomorrow because I don't have the required tool with me".

I would often book myself to turn up on Wednesday morning at 7AM. That is when they clean the lines and the manager would give me two free pints rather than pour them down the drain... Hick...
