It seems a coincidence but the only few times I had to replace a push fit joint because of a leak was when I connected it to a very short run to the end of the pipe or too close to a checking valve....is that pure coincidence or maybe I'm missing an important point here? Maybe the pressure is greater at the end and so the more likely the leakage?

Would compression joints cope better in this instances?

A few photo's would help, which brand are you using?.

Boyles Law (I think?) states pressure will be equal in a closed vessel at all points, though working/dynamic pressures will vary as fluids pass along... if a tap is opened say. Strictly speaking having goggled Boyles Law a little, refers to gases - which are fluids.

Not sure any of this helps, are you following manufacturers instructions ref cleaning outer surface of pipes, are the pipe 'metric' sizes and perfectly round in section?

The silly truth...
I've solved this silly problem a few minutes ago....and yes you are right at hinting I wasn't following the basic directions cos I bloody forgotten to use the insert on one side of the valve!!

The silly diagnosis?
The more the joints the more likely to forget to use the inserts....especially on very short bits of plumbing - that's me anyhow....as I never forget to use the inserts on longish pipe runs....strange how brains work sometimes - maybe unconsciously I didn't want to waste too many inserts for such a short bit of piping?

The silly conclusion...
apologies for opening such a silly discussion....maybe it would be an interesting one in the psychological section if there was one....

Doh!!
