I have acrows and heavy duty strongboys but seem to remember hiring a handy piece of equipment which might have been called crocodile.
It was bout 2 ft long and hinged in the centre.
I worked on a playground see saw sort of action action, in that as one end spread into the brickwork above and below the proposed slot, and the other end closed.
