Hi all,
I am planning this weekend to insulate my loft and possibly put boards down so at the moment I can use it for storage but also possibly in the future use as another room.
I live in a 150yr old building but which was converted from a school to flats 10 years ago in which time the loft was put in. I am in the middle of 3 terraced flats and so have 2 supporting walls either side of my place and the roof then pitches upwards either side with a big open space in the middle.
The joists are 8inchesx2inches and are spaced every 14 inches (35cms) along. The whole loft is 7m long by 4.3m wide so about 30 square metres in size.
I am planning on buying bog standard fibre glass insulation from B and Q to la between the joists on top of the existing stuff and then possibly buying chipdboard flooring down.
My question is:
Are the joists I have strong enough to hold an office space if I were to go on and use it for this?
Thanks
Richard
