Your sheets need to run from top to bottom(eaves to ridge). If your just nailing the felt fix a lath every 18 inch appx making sure there is a lath above each lap(also running top to bottom),also put some mastic/sealent but not silicon on your laps before fitting the next sheet and where your nails are going to go through the felt(silicone is not compatible with bitumas products). This is far better than just nailing the felt with felt nails and will last considerably longer. If your torching it on(most people dont on their own sheds unless roofers) you still want to be running your sheets top to bottom.Saying that its only a shed and will not make a great deal of differnce if running from verge to verge but technicley top to bottom is the correct way.

I got simular instructions with my shed and tbh they are not right. If you use felt nails on glass based felt which is what "shed felt" is and low quality glass felt at that.It will be prone to ripping in winds as it becomes brittle pretty quick.Laths will secure the felt far better than nails. Also when felting water is supposed to run along your laps and not aginst them. You run your sheets eave to ridge so water runs along the overlap ridge and not against it.You should also make sure your felt is not too cold when working with it as glass felt will fracture when bending if cold.Felting the other way is just a minor thing but using felt nails to secure the area is not good.
