On a vented central heating system, if I pour inhibitor directly into the header tank? Will gravity and thermal movement mix it in to the main system over a few weeks or is that unrealistic?

Thanks

Think you’ve answered your own question.

Turn ball valve off (or tie up) part drain, add inhibitor, top up and run, that way you know it’s all in the system and not sat in the F & E tank

Better to use a funnel and a bit of tubing to pour it into the f & e pipe

As above, any pouring of inhibitor into f&e tank will mean that it mostly stays in the tank. Funnel and tube down outlet in bottom of tank would only work if system is at least partly drained. Easiest to drain a rad and add through the plug in the top of rad if you have modern rads with large bleed plugs.
