putty or mastic??

Hi, I am rebuilding the garage doors replacing rotten wood, most around the windows, putty dried out and cracked up letting rain in. I have heard about glazing mastic being better. Any suggestions???. Thanks Reg

Glazing tape with beading is neater, I could never get a smooth finish with putty

Idiotic question but WTF is glazing tape??

I know what beading is, I know what putty is and I sure know what mastic is.

Curious about the actual setup for glazing though.

My [very limited] knowledge is glass pane in window 'recess' then sprigs (I think that's what they are called) then putty for the exterior.

How is that stuff used?

Peel back, stick the tape on the window rebate frame then glass plus beading. It's very very strong, if you don't line the glass positioning correctly, it's a nightmare to get the glass off! I did 90 glass panels in my summerhouse! So much easier than putty

Broken glass is rare, they should be toughen glass now
