Quality volt stick

Thanks all. I bought that one. It seems a bit erratic though. It "works" on most things but not the cable from the kettle to the socket ... even when the kettle is definitely on! Then, if I hold it in a certain way, it does work! Is this why they are "dangerous" or do I have a dodgy one?
I obviously can't say that you haven't got a dodgy one but the far more likely answer is the former (that's why they are 'dangerous'). The nature of such things is that they are most likely to work properly when put close to a single 'live' wire/conductor (like the guy is doing in that picture above!). When 'live' and neutral are close together (as in a kettle lead), the effects of the two will tend to 'cancel', thereby making function potentially erratic - they are not really 'meant' to be used like that.

Kind Regards, John
