Installing a vertical rad and the valve on Stat side is the type with a square section so it needs no tool to fit just a spanner, but when turning it does not tighten fully and if I keep turning it will pass right inside rad or at least up to the point the spanner runs out of purchase on the square sided section.
How do I ensure it does not leak.

Thanks, have used ptfe , just concerned that the valve feels so easy to turn. [Meant boss white , not plumbers mate]

Boss White and hemp  boss on it`s own used to be for gas threaded joints
