rad vents stuck

Does anyone have any tips on, i am trying to vent all my rads at home but a couple of rad vents are stuck and wont open i am using the proper vent key theses rads are old enough so i cannot crack open vent and blank with adjustable spanner, there the older vent that screws straight into top inside of rad and i am afraid of forcing it too much and damaging rad. I think the problem is me just over tightening them in the first place trying to be careful. Any tips or am i just f**ked
