Radiator Brackets (Fitting centres)

I recently removed lathe and plaster from a wall

Alongside existing studs I fitted 2 x lengths of 4 X 2, intending to fit a 400 X 1000mm radiator.

Fitted plywood and plasterboard, total thickness of 21mm; re-plastered.

I left the bracket fitting centres on the 4 x 2s at 800mm as shown in the photo.

Now, I just looked at a Stelrad Radiator 400 X 1000 type 11 (single panel single convector) and I find that the bracket fitting centres on that is 770mm.

Can anyone advise on this, please?.

Thank you.

Don't think there's a problem.

You don't need to hit your studs dead centre and anyway there's horizontal play on the bracket position on the radiator nubs.

You don't have to use the pre-drilled holes on the bracket, either.

I usually advise clients, when they are going to do this, don't fit plasterboard, use a piece of ply the same depth as the wall, scrim and then plaster over that, then you can screw the brackets anywhere on that board and it will happily support the rad.

Many thanks for your responses. Horizontal play will do.

You should have told me about the Plywood before, Ha Ha .

Great advice. I will remember next time.
