Turn off both sides, disconnect, catch water in basin or similar, decorate, refit radiator in reverse order, open valves and bleed rad. Top up boiler pressure if required.

if it has a thermostatic rad valve fitted you need to fit the manual cap so it wont open up when the room temperature drops. either that or fit a blank over the trv outlet. the lockshield 'should' just turn off.
if its a sealed system, make sure you top the system back up when you refit the rad and add some inhibitor.
