Hi All, Im new here so please bare with.

Im looking to build a raised Stone patio to replace some decking, is there a way to use retaining walls and some sort of cross bracing to support the slabs - rather than importing a significant amout of fill to build the ground up the 700mm?

Thanks in advance

You can use block and beam flooring as would be used on new build houses. Its basically a suspended masonary floor. made of prestressed concrete 'joists' and standard concrete blocks as the infill between them.

It will work out pretty dear but may be cheaper than fill if the access is bad for shifting tons and tons of fill.

If the access is good (ie you can fit a dumper) then fill will be cheaper.

Dont be tempted to fill a void like that with MOT as you will never be able to compact it well enough at a significant depth.

Better choice is to fill it with clean rubble/ clean stone and then put a capping of lean mix concrete over the top and then lay patio on that.

The fill must be restrained on all sides by rigid walls though to stop it spreading
