Hello there. I have this boiler too (The Ravenheat 820) and its packed in so we dont have any heat or hot water at the moment.
I had a plumber out and he said i should just get a new boiler but its not an option for me as i cannot afford one. He said that the pump is working and it appears the fan is working but not getting the siganl from the PCB to start up
. This seems to make sense to me and my inspection but he said that the cost of replacing the PCB would not be worth it. I got the impression that he wasnt familiar with the boiler and didnt want to work on it.

Does this sound right and also how is the best way to replace the PCB as i do not have a manual

any help gratefuly appreciated

Get another engineer in, of get Ravenheat in on a fixed price repair

If the fan is working I would be checking the air pressure switch next, as this is what tells the pcb the fan is running.

Best way to replace any PCB is to take a pic on your camera phone so you dont get any wires mixed up when you swap the part over. It is hard to get any wrong on this model as I recall. The rest is common sense starting with the words 'Isolate the power supply'

Obviously no gas carrying parts involved [An issue of concern lately] and I would say a competent DIYer should be able to do the job safely. You are relying on the accurate diagnosis of the guy that came out. This is a fault I come across fairly regularly so if the fan doesnt run on full speed, relay 2 is probably knacked. Effecting a repair is difficult so a new pcb is the best way to go unless you are a top electronics dude.

I'm not aware that Ravenheat do a fixed price repair. They just pass on the number of 'approved engineers' like myself.

ye i would feel confident to replace the PCB board seeing as its not a specailist job

it does sound like the pcb as it has 2 relays on board and they burn out completly although it could be the aps so that need checking out for 240 volts switch over when the fan is running, the boards are not expensive in comparison to others and by the way it does need a corgi person to fit the pcb because they are factory set a t 52000 btus for the heating even though its an 80000 btus boiler it is not a fully modulating and the gas has to be set to a sliding scale in the service book by a potentiometer on the board, by doing this it gas rates the boiler for your heating needs of your house, as you could have 12 rads on the system and the factory setting would be no good ?? you do not know what it has been rated at when it was commisioned if it ever was , i have been to loads with them still set at the settings and people wonder why the rads did not heat the house properly so get it looked at by a corgi engineer
