Hello

I have had a problem with my Raveneheat CSI85AT Condensing Boiler. Basically the radiators were getting hot when the boiler was only on the hot water setting and the hot water would only get hot when it was switched to heating and hotwater. When it did get hot it went hot and cold, sometimes only getting hot luke warm and other times getting really hot. The plumber changed the divertor valve which has solved the issue of the heating getting hot on the hot water only setting, however the hot water is still going hot and cold with the variance in temperature when it does get hot.

Is this a problem with the sensors. The plumber seems to think its due to sludge build up in the flow and return section of the hot water part exchanger. ie it s getting hot very quickly due to the sludge and then turning off. Does this make sense and also would something like sentinel X200 worth a shot. I dont want to keep on spending on this boiler but if it simply needs descaling then i can do that. The plumber said the noise of the boiler sounded different when drawing hot water compared to central heating. If I am going to add some sludge remover is Sentinel x200 the best thing to do?

Cheers
Raj

First problem is it's a Ravenheat. Sorry to say it, but they aren't the best boilers. If it is a blockage in the HEX I doubt very much that chemicals alone are going to do any good. A powerflush might sort it. Your engineer ought to be able to test the DHW thermistor easily enough. He could also try removing the HEX and cleaning it. Question is, how much is it worth spending on a Ravenheat.

Its not worth spending any more haha. Im gonna dump it.

Blocked plate head exchanger and possible diverter valve problem.

Possibly both caused by a dirty system.

Not the boiler.
