Sometimes thermistors can go open circuit when they get hot.

A plate HE can fail to transfer heat due to a blockage, an oxide coating on the primary side or a lime deposit on the secondary side.

Knowing how to deal with each of these senarios requires a basic understanding of chemistry.

Detecting a faulty sensor as above required a basic understanding of electronics.

Very easy, with a multimeter. But surely these chaps you had out tested everything? Or are they just 'parts changers'?
A simple Ohms test would confirm the thermistor is A1.

right this what i would do as tests set your central heating running
and find out what flow and return temps are
then do same with the hot and cold and see what the constant temp is first

20 degree drop across your plate heat ex if it was 30 or 40 plate blocked and backing up on the flow ntc knocking the boiler off back on again an so on 10 degree or less blocked again could be scaled up on the domestic side so that it can not tranfare the heat from ch to dhw side causing boiler to cut in and out. measure a NTC by connecting the multimeter across it and expect 10k at 25 degrees and 2k at 65 to 70 if it reads OL or MOHMS it's fooked

It extends from Clacton where my aged aunts used to live, to Wanstead which is in Greater London and also in Essex where I often go to fix boilers and other fun jobs.

If you want suggestions then you need to be more specific about where you are.

Thanks for the family history Tony! I believe I was quite specific in my original post, before I received some useful comments but mostly c**p and you lot using this forum as an attempt to get one up on each other.
