Hello......some advice please, I've installed a new circuit board(5021160), this was necessary due to integral relay failure, there's a knurled type knob on the board which adjusts the heat setting, is it possible for a novice to adjust the setting ?

Thank you,

Steve

Put it on heating and reduce the setting until the flame gets to about 1/2 or 1/3 of the maximum.

Or 20% up from minimum on the pot.

Tony

Hi Tony......thank you for the reply, I will check the flame height, my issue is the slowness of the boiler to ignite for water or CH.... it used to be virtually instant with the old PCB....I presumed the knurled knob on the board would be responsible and required adjustment.....any ideas ?

Thanks,

Steve

Thats only the heating power adjustment.

It sounds as if you have replaced the PCB when the fault is not on the PCB !

Expensive mistake!

Tony

Tony.....not an expensive mistake at all( £50 on ebay, new part)......the relays were burned out on the original, if you tapped them they would spark and there was contact and the boiler would burst into life immediately...a friend who is an electrical engineer also confirmed the fault.

Cheers,

Steve

Many years ago I aquired the engineers manual (PDF format) for this boiler. To date I have managed to resolve all issues I have had with my Ravenheat RSF 820/20 (one very recently) using the manual and in part this excellent forum. You are very welcome to a copy if you care to post your eMail address (in your profile).

Anyone competent with a soldering iron can replace the relays on the PCB.

Most are sold at Maplins ( or RS ).

But I am not encouraging anyone to do this. Just making the observation that its possible.

Tony

I do realise that Tony and my electrical engineer friend did suggest the relays could be replaced as you have suggested......but as I could pick up a NEW PCB with relays from ebay £50.....that sounded a damned good deal.

Kind regards,

Steve

Relays at £4 each are an even better deal!

Still not encouraging it though!

Tony

That is quite likely as the fan turns continuously and picks up a lot of dirt.

However, I would not advise a DIyer to open the combustion chamber to investigate.

Tony

Could be that the fan is stiffening up and taking longer to activate the Air Pressure Switch. Does the fan spin freely or does it stop as soon as you let go of it?

If a honeywell APS has been replaced with a HUBA type then the latter take longer to operate as they have a larger chamber
