I have to add my comment regarding winston1's posts in the above thread.

Despite my criticism of incorrect posts I also like to give credit where credit's due. In my opinion (in the absense of knowledge of the cable size) winston1 offered the correct advice in the thread, of course with the caveat the 16A OCD is correctly sized for the existing cable.

I also see in this case nothing wrong with what @winston1 said. I think there is a problem with any DIY work, as the DIY guy does not have the equipment to do all the testing and inspecting required, so there is a balance, and we can always find some thing not quite right unless the reply is pages long, but @winston1 gave a good concise reply.

I thought the thread was unjustly closed.

Since the circuit was on a 16amp protective device, it would be unlikely the cable would be 4mm2 or greater, which would be needed for a 32amp device.

The ring circuit comment may have over-complicated things, but was a reasonable and correct remark.

I don't think there was anything there to seriously mess up a future poster, and there was certainly no dangerous advice.

Bit surprised the thread then rapidly closed, particularly as I think there was an opportunity to inform the op what cable and size to use for the additional socket. (2.5mm2 T+E would be usual.)
