hi
I have a 30 year old? Certainly 20, gas fire that no longer works.
It is a Marseille fire, brass fronted, open flame coal effect and has no power supply, it uses a battery. Gas is supplied via a small bore pipe that goes in the side of the chimney breast, with a (normally) unused gas tap outside the breast, in the alcove.
The chimney is a normal old school ex coal fired one.

This is the existing fire

It was installed and serviced by a qualified fitter at the time

Any recommendations for a similar replacement? Obviously a gas safe job.
I would discuss any choice with the fitter but some recommendations would be good.
I would prefer either a side mount on/off or remote, rather than getting on my knees to light it.

Any makes to avoid? This is for occasional use, but I'd prefer to be medium to high end rather than bargain basement.
What would be a reasonable day's pay for a fitter?

Thx
