Real wood worktops

I have built a new kitchen and used Wickes wooden worktops. They had numerous coats of teak oil until i found out due wickes misinformation that i should have used linseed oil! So, numerous coats of linseed oil, sanding, blood, sweat and tears and the wife complains, "I thought they would be shiny" . Does anyone have any professional advice? thanks for your help.

Tell her that oiled finishes are generally flat, not shiny. Fact of life. To get a gloss finish you need more of finish build than you could normally get with an oil finish even if you filled the grain and sanded to 320 grit (which on a coarse grained timber like teak is a pretty pointless exercise TBH). Best you'll probably manage is something like a satin sheen.
