Hi all,

I was wondering if it is possible to install a rectangular flue and if this would be approved by building control if required.

It’s all in aim to gain some space in the upper floor, bathroom.

What I’d like to do:

- Remove the top portion of a chimney through to roof level, leaving the lower part of the chimney breast intact.
- Fit a wood burning stove on the lower floor with a circular flue
- Fit a transitional connection to a rectangular flue, this would probably need to be fabricated
- The rectangular profile would allow for the same cross-sectional area, albeit very wide (letterbox shape).
- Build this into a stud wall on the bathroom along with the pluming etc.

I’m happy getting parts fabricated as long as there is some chance of getting things approved.

I assume if the cross-sectional area is the same or bigger then this should be fine.

I imagine the heat transfer would be the biggest issue, especially when building it into stud wall.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks David
