Wood Burning Flue?

I'm thinking of installing a flue inside my coal fire chimney, as I've been told it would cost a lot to have it pointed as needed. (it's an 18th century building).
I've also been told it would not be safe to burn wood thereafter.
Is this advice an absolute, as obviously wood is more economical?

18th Century building (Listed maybe??) means your local Conservation Officer (your local Council) will have an interest so speak to her/him; in my experience they are very helpful and give good advice.
