Refilling systems

Have drained and refilled quite a few systems but learning all the time...

I know combi boilers have air relief valves so vent themselves but what about other boilers? Am I likely to get "air in boiler" problems on some boilers? Is this rare? What are the symptoms? What to do if it happens?

Hope somebody can enlighten me
