I think most of us agree that the migration issue needs resolved, however I suspect some (many?) are buying the rhetoric that the country's other ills will, almost by default, be resolved if we remove all the illegals.

This won't be the case. And, a bit like the SNP focusing on independence to the detriment of other policy areas, I do wonder just how effective Reform would be in government in terms of dealing with everything, not just migration.

If we're being honest, this is what it boils down to. Do we want to stop people coming into the country illegally i.e. via non approved routes for those that don't like the word illegal being used in this context.

I'd go as far as to say this must become a Y/N answer. Do we want it stopped, or not? If we leave other answers to this core question, we'll get nowhere. All this guff about solving it by opening up more legal routes, really? That's the solution? Nah.

If the consensus is we do (need to stop it), then tinkering around the proverbial edges isn't going to do diddly squat. Why government seems so disinterested at making more concerted inroads on this, goodness only knows. However this is apparently why Shabana Mahmood has been given the brief, to make more of a difference.

why on earth would a government not be interested in sorting out the crisis -because if Labour could sort it out, that would seriously damaged Reform party, who are effectively a one policy party

the reality is that there are no easily solutions.

Farage stands on the sidelines selling simple solutions to a complex problem, but that does not mean there are quick solutions

I think that is just another simple solution to a complex problem which wont work

although I can see a bit of merit in the French deal, as that is effectively opening a legal route, in the sense that those with legit claims to asylum can get to UK through an agreed route. But the scheme is too small and the numbers coming to large to help

here is one example:

-less and less people can get on the property ladder, so they rent
-the rent goes to pay landlords
-landlords have mortgages
-mortgage companies make lots of profit
-the wealthy own shares in these companies and so they become richer as their assets grow
