Reinforce loft floor and build walls for home office

I'm planning on reinforcing the floor of my loft and building some stud type walls, and adding a Velux at the back of the property so that I can use the space as an office/man-cave.

Not sure when I'll be starting, but will post photos and so on when I do. My neighbour is an electrician so will do the electrics and I'll get a guy in to plaster, but hoping to do all the rest myself.

Does anyone have any pointers of things to look out for or tips?

This a proper loft conversion or just a bodge up?

Not a proper conversion as in I won't be putting in stairs or anything, but will be reinforcing the floor etc.

I would make some sketches and send them to the guys you get from Gumtree. Make the price for building warrant approval. Will range from 300 to 400 quid plus a few hundred to engineer and a couple of hundred to BC. Makes a grand but it will be your main expense but its well worth it for the value you will put on the place.

Watch ebay n guntree for insulation board or velux windows always bargains. I got my insulation together over 4 months before starting huge saving. If drawings state a material just ensure you have similiar or above R value or just double up to be over.

Have a look at space saver stairs (google it) might be what you want. Dont forget to double your rafters either side of your velux plus trimmers.
