Hi

Just had a quote from a local company for 12 Windows, 2 doors, 1 patio window. £12600 (Veka)

The company insists that if the frames aren't reinforced they will be both unreliable and inferior.

I have since read this when researching whether or not reinforcing is necessary. https://easyfitwindow.com/reinforcing.asp

What are your thoughts?

Cheers

Simon

PS The widest window will be 180cm

Everything on that site is spot on. larger windows, doors and colored windows need reinforcing. smaller ones don't. Only thing they missed out is some company's now use PVC, wood or composite reinforcing as its thermally better than metal.

Personally I would say £12.6k is on the high end of prices. Have you tried some local company's for prices?

Just spotted that was from a local company. Have you tried some more?

I have had a quote of £4600 for supply only of Rehau for the 12 windows, 2 doors and 1 patio door from a local company called Keyframe (they don't fit). How much would I likely have to pay for fitting?

I also just had a quote from a very local family run business which has been around for 30 odd years. They quoted £6800 for the same using Synseal Legend profile.

I know Rehau is a reputable brand but never heard of Synseal?

Synseal are fine. All of the major brands are pretty much the same nowadays. (they have to be to meet the modern regs).

Personally I prefer Eurocell or Liniar, Mainly down to the moldings on them (I just think they are the nicest looking).

The cost prices on the makes of windows are all similar too so it looks like that 1st company likes higher profit margins.

The most important part is the fitting!
Ask around some friends and family see if any of them have used either company, Facebook is handy for that.

Synseal is more or less a direct copy of Rehau as it happens, I was led to believe the designer of the Rehau now works for Synseal (you can work the rest out), the slight difference though is the Synseal has thicker walls

Thanks for the replies.

Is there much difference in the quality of hinges and locks or are they pretty much of a similar standard?
