Hi - would very much appreciate some advice on how anyone might tackle this.

Bannister was removed by previous owner, looking to reinstate but if we go with the existing line provided by the base rail, it'll hit the ceiling of the hall about 3/4 of the way up the stairs. Is there such thing as an S shaped bend available and is this even advisable?

Sharp turn at the top also means the handrail has to finish half way up the newel post on the landing, unless it could meet the top somehow.

Any thoughts welcomed, many thanks.

You can get various bends and monkey tails.
Personally I would set the height with a string to where it meets the ceiling.
This will probably end up a foot or two away from where the base rail runs out.
I would then fix a horizontal piece of handrail fitted to the ceiling and a joint to the sloping rail.

The horizontal part may need a bit of fettling so that the area that fixes to the ceiling is flat for a good fit, yet melds in with the handrail profile where it doesn't touch the ceiling.
