Been wondering for a while why we have a macerator on the downstairs toilet - outside, there's a clear run to the lower portion of the soil pipe without having to go up and round via 15mm copper.

The other day, I realised. The lower 7ft of the soil pipe is cast iron. It actually looks as if whoever fitted the toilet was planning to do a normal run until they spotted the same, as the bricks have been removed and then re-filled.

I want to get rid of the macerator. Which means I also want to get rid of as much of the cast iron pipe as needed. I know I can hire a chain cutter to make the single cut that I'd need.

Questions, though, are: where do I cut? As in, how low is too low..? Presumably that cast iron goes underground, so I'd need something uPVC to joint it either at ground level, or just above.

Any help would be much appreciated.. downstairs loo stinks with that macerator!

You can just use a grinder to cut the cast iron pipe. It can be flush to the ground but to be practical normally a little above for the grinder to get a square cut.
You can google the adaptors to connect to cast iron.
