Hello,

I am renovating my 1927 house. Removed the old carpet tiles and under that was some very old stuck down vinyl tiles. I am trying to chisel them off but no dice , they have this black stuf which is stuck fast and its damaging the floor by chipping into it when i try to get it off.

Any ideas on how I can get these off to prepare the floor for underfloor heating (electrical one) and then an 8mm laminate...?

Thanks,,

A hot iron across the tile may help by melting the adhesive but i'd use a tea towel or similar over the tiles so you aren't scorching the surface and maybe causing any noxious fumes. You could also hire a machine from HSS or similar but it's still likely to be hard work and possibly damage the floor too.
