Have removed most of the wall paper from wall adjoining stairs

Can’t figure out how to remove a portion which seems like cardboard or skim - is it plaster board or wall paper backing that has stubbornly stuck to the wall

I don’t see the same across the wall though

That looks like bonding plaster over existing wall maybe?
Door been moved or renovated in the past?

Thank you. Door has not been moved. It is the wall that had wall paper on it. On one section of the wall the bonding plaster comes of very easily and i can hear hollow sound when i tap the wall near the other edge of the wall.

What will be the ways of restoring the wall if I decide to do it myself - cant afford another xxx pounds after spending it on fixing the leak in the roof above the steps (this is the side wall)

SBR wall.
Apply bonding to level.
SBR the bonding to seal and skim.

Watch channels like... On the trowel....on YouTube with DIY beginner demonstrations.

The wall paper started coming off due to leak ing water through a roof hole. That has been fixed. Most of the Wall paper came off quite easily by knifing

Tapping the wall has revealed some areas where plaster is blown. Will this need PVA + hard wall application and then British gypsum bonding as a final coat as suggested by you tube videos (thank you to @Wayners

Should i go identifying other areas of blown plaster and take it off first?

The wall is L shape where the longer arm is against the stairs and shorter arm is around the window

I had that in my last house, I'm sure my decorator mate called it dot and dab. I had a loose bit after I steamed some woodchip off, which I pulled off, but wasn't as big as the bit you have missing. My mate had a spare bit of plasterboard, cut it the same shape as the hole then stuck it in. He then made it good with some plaster skim.

Good question about the steamer. It can make plaster blow. What's the answer?
