Hello,

Currently within my fireplace I have bricks pointing in a triangle shape.
I want to remove these bricks to make the inside to be square so i can fit a square log basket in it.

I have a picture of the inside here:

Behind the bricks is a gap and they are only four/five high (I can fit my hand over the top and down the back of them).

Would this be ok or would it affect the flow?

You cannot remove the fireback if you still want to use the chimney as an open fire! You should not be able to put your hand down the back of the blocks either, it should be sealed off and chamfered forward to funnel any soot or debris from the flue down into the grate.

On the other hand if it is redundant....carry on.
