I used 'no nails' to fix this surround (sandstone) to the wall. It was a newly skimmed wall.

I now want to remove the surround, hopefully in one piece so we can sell it.

Any advice on the best way to do this?

Many thanks.

Sharpen a spatula blade and carefully slip it in behind the surround - follow the outline all the way round. This will cut the caulking. If you reach a stubborn bit then heating the blade before inserting it will release the glue.

Doing it this way might save the plaster from spelching off, which it might do if you simply attempt to prise the surround off.

Be cautious about disconnecting the fire if thats necessary.

You could also use an old slate ripper if you have one or know of anyone who does. Just keep it flat on the wall and gently push it in behind surround and wall . That's what I use in these situations... ;)
