hi, 1st post - here goes

im looking for some advice on getting cross beams removed. i recently floored a largish unused section of my attic, i now want to make even more space and build a hobby room and would like the cross beams removed. i can work round them but its a real pain.

i dont know much about them and don't want to go to massive costs. can this be done without planning and 100% safely?

any advice appreciated.

thanks in advance

here here are some images, i'm mainly looking for the middle sections to be removed.

Not easy - your roof trusses rely on every member to triangulate the system.

It's not impossible but you would need to do a lot of strengthening work - steels would be required in several locations...so it wouldn't be cheap.

This form of roof is called a trussed roof. It is designed by a computer so they can use skinny bits of wood. Modifying it in such a big way will lead to a tragedy unless you engage an engineer who can design suitable reinforcing.

oh dear, not what i wanted to hear! but thanks for the replys

what about boxing the area off using the beams as walls, like a triangle shaped room. would they support the likes of plasterboard or plywood. that's option 2. I already plan on removing the header tank. im having gas installed and can be done at the same time. this would open up more room for option 2 - longer, just not as big.
