Greetings,

The previous occupants had some disability handles in the downstairs toilet; they were installed by Satan.

The screws are large, and they will not come out - they will not move. I've tried hacksawing the head to use a flathead, but it's not happening. To get the wall flush, is my only choice to chip away the plaster and use a sharp chisel?

I'm sure this is a common problem.

Drill the head off with a metal bit. You can also get special bits for extracting large screws - cant remember the name :)

How were these "headless" screws fitted?. Use a small chisel on the side of the head to knock them round the undoing way. Get you powerful battery drill running in reverse with some sort of chisel bit. Not just a cosmetic cap fitted over a bolt head?

Just cut them off (and into the plaster a bit) with an angle grinder.

If you don't have one, go get one.

They're bloody useful and make things that could take ages (and risk injuries) into literally a 5 second effortless task.

The heads mostly sheared off while trying to unscrew. The angle grinder is a good tip, and I have been looking for an excuse to buy one!

Thanks for your advice chaps.

I use mole grips, if you can get them on,
put them on sideways, as tight as you can, squashing the head if you can
