Stripped back an old Bothie, and found these. Any thoughts on removing?

I see no problem in removal
What do you intend to do with the opening.

I am trying to get back to stone, ready to build new insulated walls inside, and the fireplaces stick out too much. I have no se for them at all, so trying to get as flush to the old stone as possable.
