Hi all, our garden has a five course retaining wall between a patio (upper level) and lawn (lower). It is a bit unsightly so I was thinking of rendering it. The bricks seem very smooth so not sure if it this possible? If so, how would I go about prepping the brickwork - cleaning, roughing up for adhesion, etc.

I assume it wouldn't be wise to render right down to lawn level?

Also concerned about longevity of such a finish, water/frost damage, etc. Any thoughts for or against?

If rendering isn't advisable, what about cladding with one of those fancy slate effect finishes you often see in bathrooms (obviously using something suitable for outdoors of course). I guess the above questions would still apply...
