Tried to access the render screed estimator at the top of the page without success. What I am looking for is to be able to compare quantities for coverage of area ...say 10sq mtr for the materials required between dot and dab and sand cement render at 12mmm.
I am trying to promote the use of dot and dab over the traditional sand and cement method here in Ireland. Dot and dab drylining being a concept that has yet to take off but is just begginning to be recognised so want to get my foot firmly in the door, I just need to be able to compare the material costs to see if this will be a viable proposition.
Anyone help please???

This isnt a strong point but have tried. :oops:

I used mix estimator and just put in 10m for height and 10m for length on wall 1. at 12mm thick.

10sq mtr = 10m Heigh 10m Long 12mm thick

Heres what it came up with.

Densities
Sand 1.27 t/m3
Cement 1.7 t/m3
Hydralime 0.535 t/m3
Area
Wall 1 Wall 2 Wall 3 Wall 4
Length M 10
Height M 10
Thickness Mm 12
Contingency 10 %
Mix Cement Hydralime Sand
1 1 5
m3 0.24 0.24 1.20
kg actually required 408 128 1524
Bags (inc contingency) 25kg 18 6 68 Bags
Plasticiser 300 ml/50kg cement 2.69 Litres

Plasterboards

10m = 32.8ft
10m = 32.8ft

32.8 ft x 32.8 ft = 1075.84

How many plasterboards fit into 1075.84 feet
8x4=32ft

1075.84 /32 = 33.62
So you would need to price up 33.62 - 8by4boards (boards being 12.5 mm thick) and price up the render above to see the cost difference.

Dont really know how this is going but would you have to account for scrim/board adhesive etc?

If im miles out sorry but i tried having a go, Let me know if its wrong and i will take question to college and ask lecturer to work it out, Hes more into theory than practical.

Let me know how you get on m8

alright legs your trying to promote dry lining, forget the cost comparison id say there wasnt that much in it. Lets take this as an example 4 bags of sand 1 cement mix it, how far do you recon 12 mm thickness, id say no more than 5m what would that cost you, 4 sand £4, 1 cement £4 = £8 thats without the feb, mixer. so lets say weve got a 10m wall thats £16. Dabbing the same wall would need just over 3 8*4 boards £12 bonding compound £4 = £16. theres not much in it price wize, but the benefits are i would dab 3 boards whilst your still getting your mixer out of the van :wink: :lol: I would be skimming within 3 hours just as your rubbing up and id be coming the next day to pick up the pennies when your skimming :wink: :lol: so one of the benefits is time, not just for you but the client, they can start decorating within days on boards god knows when the sand and cement will dry. The mess is another, compare dabbing 3 boards to setting up the mixer for sand and cement and applying it. now thats just 10m imagine 100m, another thing is its very easy to measure up for dabbing than guessing the quantities for sand and cement.

legs if dot and dab or drylining hasnt taken off i dont think metal stud or mf ceilings would of taken off yet. if i was you id do as much homework on this because this is where the money is, its not hard and unlike plastering you get plenty of time to breath. Its mad money but people are getting onto it and if you want to get your foot in the door i would concentrate on this aswell.
