I have a house with a large gable end wall which is in need of being rendered.

Ive been told sand and cement render will only last 5 years which to me sounds wrong but maybe that's it and I should be using monocouche render.

Ive had a few quotes and to me, for the work that's involved, spraying render on a wall, it just seems rather expensive. £2000 for materials and £4000 for a bloke to do a weeks work if that, and that's the lowest quote.

If anyone could tell me if that's the right price, or just give me a quote or advice, it would be appreciated.

I don't have any pics of the wall but its flat, I have scaffolding, im taking the old render off, no windows. 150sqm.

Im in Nottinghamshire if anyones local :)

I wish someone told me to be a plasterer when I left school!!:D

Just to add.

I don't live in the property, its rented out and I may try and sell in a couple of years. Ive just heard some bad things about sand and cement, but reading some more reviews, some plasterers hate monocouche.

I want a decnt job that's going to last a while and not fall off.

Sorry and thanks to admin for moving my post, I didn't see this section.

Sand and cement lasts 5 years lol ? Stay well clear from the plasterer! As for the mono it is amazing stuff we use it all the time. It is more flexible then traditional sand and cement and crack resistant and water vapour permeable. It also Comes in many colours so no need for painting. The price you have been quoted works our around £26 a meter not including the £2000 wanted for materials which is to high aswell. It's not going to be the cheapest option mono but you could get a more reasonable price then that. Just make sure they no how to mono properly ! :)

As Rochester says, well over priced; if you check out Moncouche render on eBay, and you can start to see end of job lots being sold off. If there's only one guy doing the job, then he's earning £800 a day, but even 2 guys would be on £400, so I'd say they are taking the p**s. To be fair, it is a bit more specialised than sand a cement, but not worth that premium. Do a bit of research on the internet as to how it's done, and keep looking for other quotes, and you'll then be able to challenge them on their prices.
