Rendering sand?

Hi,

Getting warmer so got some rendering jobs lined up.

As a point for discussion, I'd be grateful for any comments, advice, experience as to the best (most workable / best finish etc) sand to use for external render and where to get it.

(i.e. washed sharp, sharp/soft mix - what ratio? etc)

PS. Anyone used the plastic beads and what are the pros and cons over stainless?

I get the sand for my plasterer from a local aggregate supplier. It is between building sand and sharp sand, called plastering sand.
That is what we use as he prefers it

I have found that different merchants give you different sand when you ask for plastering sand. Some too sharp others too soft. Pot luck I suppose.
